Information

There's something different about the Spinone that is different from any other breeds-they seem to feel a very strong connection with their masters.

The Spinone appears to have been widely known in Italy. In some parts of Italy the dog was known as the Spinoso or Spinone. The name comes from a thorny bush, the pino, which often grows in impenetrable thickets. Only the thick skinned, wiry coated hunting dogs could succeed in flushing the game from such surroundings.

Capable of displaying a high degree of intelligence, the Spinone, requires human interaction to bring out its best abilities. This dog not only wants to interact with humans, but has to in order to perform it's job properly in the field and at home. This urgency translates into an intimate relationship between dog and owner. Gentle training based on positive motivation will erase any sign of stubbornness and reinforce the breed's easygoing character.

The sociable Spinone thrives when interacting with other dogs and companion animals as well as with responsible adults and children.
